Destiny Discover - This is our library's online catalog. Use it to find books, write reviews on our materials, and explore special collections. You can very easily create your own collection (looks and operates just like a Pinterest board!) to share with your students about specific projects or topics and include our library materials as well as any website, picture, or other resource you find anywhere else on the web.

Discovery Education - Contains streaming media, warm ups, worksheets, lesson plans, puzzle makers, and other resources free to educators.

Kahoot! - Free, game-based learning platform that allows your class to review and learn content in a fun and interactive way.

Quizlet - A free platform where you can create your own study sets or use those already created in order to practice with flashcards, fill-in-the-blank quizzes, match games, and more to study the material.

Study Stack - Free flashcard platform where you can create your own flashcards or use those already made for studying.

STEAM

Discovery Education Login Directions

Click on link above, then log in using the "Sign in with Google" button.

You have access to:

  • DE Streaming Plus- videos, texts, images, interactive activities. Use the search button in the top right to search your topic after logging in.

  • DE STEM Connect- Hover over the menu on the left hand side of the DE homepage after logging in. Choose STEM Connect from the menu. Use the drop down menu at the top to select your grade. STEM projects will be listed for you to choose from.

  • Spotlight on Strategies- Use the button above for link after logging into DE; these are engagement strategies you can use for all grade levels and all subjects. They are organized by purpose (summarizing, compare/contrast, instructional hook, assess, etc.)

ELA

Canva - An awesome free platform where you or your students can create a variety of graphic designs including infographics, web banners, posters, flyers, magazine covers, and so much more. Some graphics and templates are available for purchase but there are so many free ones available this is not necessary.

edtechteacher: Comics Creation - A variety of free platforms for creating comics easily.

Read Write Think - Wonderful resource full of lesson plans, activities, videos, professional development, and more.

Scholastic Book Wizard - Great website full of lesson plans, activities, book lists, and much more. Also gives reading level information on books.

Teaching Books - Amazing database full of lesson plans and instructional materials for tons of fiction and nonfiction books for grades K-12.

Math

Arcademic Skill Builder - A site with free games to help students build skills relating to fractions, integers, ratio & proportion, algebra, and more.

g(Math) - YouTube video showing how to use g(Math), a tool that allows you to create expressions and graphs that you can place directly into your Google Doc.

Inside Mathematics - Website with many resources available for educators that are easily searchable by grade level or mathematical strand.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Illuminations - This site includes many interactives and lessons plans that are easily searchable and free to educators.

PhET Simulations: Middle School - A variety of simulations searchable by subject and grade level.

Real World Math - Free lesson plans and math activities relating to Google Earth.

Wizkids CAS - A powerful CAS calculator add-on for Google Docs.

Science

Arkive - A great nature/wildlife-related website with many resources for teachers separated by age level including teachers' notes, classroom presentations, downloadable activities with instructions, videos, and more.

National Science Teachers Association: Freebies for Science Teachers - A list of various freebies available to science teachers compiled by the NSTA.

PhET Simulations: Middle School - A variety of simulations searchable by subject and grade level.

Science News for Students - News stories tailored specifically to students dealing with current, popular issues in science.

Social Studies

edtechteacher: Best of History Websites - A list of history-related websites searchable by topic.

Library of Congress: Prints & Photographs Online Catalog - A great resource for photos on a plethora of topics provided by the Library of Congress.

Smithsonian Online Library - Great resource with over 13.5 million searchable records of museum objects, archives,library materials, images, blog posts, audio, and videos.

Research & Resources

Dictionary - Visit this site to quickly look up dictionary definitions and use a thesaurus (just switch tabs at the top to use the thesaurus).

SC DISCUS - Just because you live in South Carolina, you get to use all these amazing resources for FREE! This database of databases is a wonderful place to start any research project with access to thousands of encyclopedia entries, professional articles, magazines, newspapers, and other reference materials. You will automatically be logged in if you use the school's internet but if you would like to access these resources from home, please see Mrs. Edwards in the media center for login information.

SC State Library - The website for South Carolina's state library offers information on tons of free services, programs, and research help available to the residents of South Carolina. There is even a window at the bottom of the page that allows you to ask one of their librarians a question!

Citations & Digital Citizenship

Citation Machine - This site is a simple, straight-forward way to quickly generate citations in MLA format.

EasyBib - An easy-to-use site that automatically creates citations for you to copy and paste. This tool can be used for free but will occasionally have you watch a commercial.

Noodle Tools - A quick, fill-in-the-blanks form to help create MLA citations easily.

Photos for Class - A great site to quickly access thousands of images that you have permission to use for any of your projects. When you download the photo, it will automatically give credit to the original creator for you!

Purdue's OWL Writing Lab - This website is full of useful information about using and creating MLA citations. A great resource if you're trying to full understand MLA!
